The Moon Jar

Share a wish with the MOON JAR.

“WHAT IS THE MOON JAR? Inspired by the full moon in the sky, Korean people created this Moon Jar as a symbol of love, health and happiness for their families. That’s why I like to call it a ‘Wishing Jar.’ May your wish come true” : ) 💙

HARVEST MOON 2025

We open up THE MOON JAR tonight, on October 6th, as the Harvest Moon, the first supermoon of 2025, rises in the night sky. Tomorrow, we join The Vast Blue We: Del Sol Quartet at the Internet Archive. Wherever you may be, we hope that you take a moment to look up at the moon and make a wish.

‘THE MOON JAR’ MAKERS

This small Moon Jar was made by Jenna Borum Kim, an artist based in British Columbia, Canada. Andi was at Granville Market in Vancouver when she met Jenna, who crafts contemporary ceramics inspired by nature. Jenna shared the tradition of placing wishes in the moon jar. See more of Jenna’s work on Instagram @dogi_jagi.

When Andi got back home, there was a package waiting for her. This surprise gift, crafted by her Blue Marble friend, Anna Maria in Rome, Italy, had finally arrived. The package had been held up with the end of the duty-free de minimis exemption for low-value packages to the United States, when many countries, including Italy, suspended postal service to the United States. But when the gift arrived, the doily fit the Moon Jar perfectly — just like magic! Anna Maria was invited to make the first wish for the Moon Jar.
